Quality Cumbria

Introducing Quality Cumbria

Tourism underpins Cumbria's economy accounting for 18% of the County's GDP and 25% of all jobs. With at least 15 million visitors per annum and over 47,000 jobs supported by visitor expenditure, tourism is vital to Cumbria.

As you are aware, the quality of our accommodation is an extremely important part of our visitors' experience.  Visitors to Cumbria need to enjoy the nights they spend with us, the breakfasts they eat and the hospitality they receive.

Cumbria Tourism is committed to improving the quality of our visitors' experience.  The overall quality of our accommodation must be at least as high, if not higher than other UK tourist destinations to help us compete and attract visitors.

We have some excellent quality accommodation.  Many of our accommodation providers are rightly proud of what they offer.  But we need to make high quality the norm not the exception and let our visitors know about the quality accommodation available to them.  Only then can we make sure that Cumbria meets and hopefully exceeds the expectations of every visitor.

This doesn't mean that every establishment must be Five Star and we lose our uniqueness which is quite often what our visitors enjoy about Cumbria.  Good quality is just as important and valued by visitors who stay in One Star accommodation.  We need to offer high-quality choices to suit all budgets.

We aim to receive national recognition for high-quality accommodation of all levels by 2012.  Which is why, with the help of VisitBritain and in partnership with the Accommodation, Inspection and Advisory Services (AIAS), Cumbria and Lakeland Self Caterers' Association (CaLSCA) and the Lakes Hospitality Association (LHA), we have developed Quality Cumbria, our Quality Assurance programme.

From now on, our visitors will see the following quality assurance schemes in Cumbria Tourism's and our partners' promotional literature and websites:

·       AA

·       VisitBritain

·       Quality Cumbria

We welcome your support in achieving our aim to build Cumbria as a long term national and international quality brand and destination.
