Cumbria Tourism offers a number of domestic marketing opportunities. Cumbria - The Lake District Holiday Guide 2008

This is a big guide with a big distribution and is big business for those advertising in it. Cumbria – The Lake District Holiday Guide is the county's flagship publication with over 50 pages of editorial and 700 advertisers, reaching up to 350,000 potential visitors through a vibrant and colourful campaign. It is distributed through a highly targeted national media campaign and to Tourist Information Centres around the UK and is supported by PR activity. 1 in 3 people who requested the 2006 Holiday Guide went on to visit Cumbria - The Lake District. 55% of these visitors used the Holiday Guide to plan their days out. More Information

Caravan, Camping & Holiday Homes Guide

This A5 guide publication is produced solely for the camping, caravan and holiday homes market, reaching up to 20,000 potential visitors. It is distributed via Tourist Information Centres nationwide and to a segmented database of caravan & campsite users. With support from the BH&HPA and The National Trust, the guide is supported by related marketing and PR activity throughout the year.

Culture

A dedicated project to promote Cumbria as a cultural destination to new and existing markets, with a full time member of staff working on the project. The campaign works through a variety of web, e-marketing and print channels with a focus on attracting arts attenders to the region.

 

Highlights

 

  • In April 2008 a booklet 'Cumbria-Crucible of Creativity', highlighting Cumbria as a cultural destination was distributed through 560,000 copies of The Guardian
  • National culture PR specialist agency Colman Getty are working on the campaign with a target to generate press coverage to the value of £1m advertising equivalent around key events and messages
  • A targeted campaign to package the Visual Arts offer is planned for Autumn 2008
  • A Culture Guide with up to date information and listings is planned for late 2008/early 2009
  • Culture specific e-newsletters to Cumbria Tourism data, as well as specialist arts attendee data.

The national tourism body, VisitBritain, has a remit to grow the value of the domestic market by encouraging British residents to take additional and/or longer breaks in England.

Throughout the year VisitBritain offers a broad range of Enjoy England marketing opportunities suited to all budgets. Cumbria Tourism works in close partnership with VisitBritain and buys into a range of campaigns to promote Cumbria-The Lake District. In accordance with the Strategy for Tourism in England's Northwest, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the 5 Northwest Tourist Boards manage a series of regionwide tourism marketing campaigns that Cumbria Tourism participates in.
