Holiday Guide

guide

Believe it or not, the time is almost upon us again to kick-start marketing opportunities for the 2009 Holiday Guide.  Details for the Guide and Golakes are being sent out soon, but as a little teaser, we can confirm that those packages first introduced last year will be retained for 2009, which means we can continue to offer up to 20% discounts on combined Guide and Web purchases.

The over-whelming success of the re-designed 2008 Guide has led to a decision to reprint an additional 20,000 copies of the guide, which will fulfil outstanding lead generation contacts as well as covering requests through Golakes.  In addition, 30,000 copies of the CD-Rom version of the Guide will be distributed at the end of this month to specially identified consumers with a keen interest in the Lake District & Cumbria.

Web Marketing

A new advertising space - an Adspot - is now available on www.golakes.co.uk.  Adspots will feature on the main pages of the golakes site and offer the opportunity for golakes advertisers to take a more prominent advert on the site for up to a month at a time.  Adspots link through to the advertisers current entry on golakes.  For more information contact Gaynor Wood on 01539 825012.

The winner of the Webby Awards has now been announced, and although golakes didn't manage to stake top place this year, we are delighted that the site has been recognised as one of the 'World's Top 5' Best Tourism Websites of 2008.  The Webby Awards are the leading international awards honouring excellence on the Internet and needless to say, we will be entering www.golakes.co.uk for 2009.  Many thanks to everyone who took the time to vote this year.

Adventure Capital

Swim

For those of you that are not yet aware, Windermere and the Adventure Capital programme are delighted to be welcoming a brand new event this September - The Great North Swim.  Brought to us by Nova International, the organisers of the Great North Run, thousands of swimmers will be plunging into the waters of Windermere to swim their mile for charity, including the UK's most decorated male swimmer, and eight times World Record Holder, Mark Foster.  Nova, with support from the Government, are trying to encourage greater mass participation across the country in activities beyond running, and the Great North Swim is the first of these new breed of activity events.  To find out more and to enter this new event, visit www.greatnorthswim.org.

Another new venture to watch out for this month is www.yearofadventure.tv, a dedicated website for videos showcasing the best outdoor activities in the county.
