VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence 2016 name Cumbrian finalists
Two Cumbrian tourism businesses have been revealed as finalists in VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence 2016.
Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park in Keswick – already a winner in last year’s Cumbria Tourism Awards – has made the final five nationally in the Holiday Park / Holiday Village of the Year category. Another Cumbria Tourism member, the Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale, has been shortlisted in the new Dog Friendly Business of the Year category.
Working collaboratively with industry, VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence inspire and motivate businesses to become outstanding leaders in the industry and this year, the national tourist board received more than 400 applications from across the country. The winners of this prestigious accolade will be announced at the Award ceremony on Tuesday 8 March at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, during English Tourism Week.
As finalists, both Castlerigg Hall and the Sun Inn will be given either a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended Award by the judging panel, although they must wait until the Awards ceremony to find out which one they receive.
There will be further Cumbrian interest on the night, as Windermere Lake Cruises boatman Rob Beale is one of eleven holiday heroes bidding to become VisitEngland’s ‘Tourism Superstar’. This special award is chosen by a public vote, with voting still open to #VoteCumbriaRob until the end of February.
Ian Stephens, Cumbria Tourism’s Managing Director, says; “It is a fantastic achievement for these two highly successful Cumbrian businesses to reach the final stages of these prestigious awards and represent Cumbria at a national level. I wish them all the best for the final and look forward to the results.”
Lucy Fuller, co-owner of the Sun Inn, says, “It’s exciting to be named as one of the top five dog-friendly businesses in the country by the national tourist board. As a business, we pride ourselves on offering the quality and service guests expect from a luxury inn with a fine dining restaurant, while also being genuinely welcoming to dog lovers too. We’re all looking forward to finding out the final outcome in Blackpool next month!”
David Jackson, owner of Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park says, “We are absolutely delighted to be named in the top five Holiday Park / Holiday Village of the Year category in the national VisitEngland awards. The team at Castlerigg Hall works hard to offer the best experience possible for our visitors and it is fantastic to be recognised at this level. We can’t wait for Blackpool ”.
