Founded in 1934, Friends of the Lake District is a membership charity working solely to protect and enhance the special qualities of the distinctive and inspirational landscapes of Cumbria and the Lake District.
We believe in sustainable tourism which places the environment first, benefits the economy and local communities and enables people to enjoy our beautiful landscapes without causing long term harm to them. We work on many subjects including transport, agriculture and forestry as well as access, recreation and tourism. We offer grants to local communities and fund repairs to upland paths through the Fix the Fells project. We run a range of events through various projects such as Flora of the Fells. All of this contributes towards ensuring that Cumbria and the Lake District remains beautiful for visitors and locals to enjoy.
Members of Friends of the Lake District enjoy various benefits, such as discounts on entry to historic attractions, 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoors, free attendance at events, walks and talks held by the charity. To find out more please visit our website.
