Calling all Tourism Businesses – entries are open for the 15th Cumbria Tourism Awards
Tourism businesses from across Cumbria have until Thursday 23rd March 2017 to enter the prestigious Cumbria Tourism Awards. Now in their 15th year the awards celebrate the very best of what Cumbria has to offer and the talented individuals behind them. Cumbria’s tourism businesses, drive a visitor economy worth over £2.6 billion making their achievements, hard work and dedication worthy of recognition.
There are 17 award categories in total which cover the huge range and diversity of Cumbria’s tourism industry. Many of the winners from the awards will go on to represent the county at the Visit England Awards for Excellence in 2018. Cumbria has seen a great deal of success at national level in recent years, resulting in fantastic media promotion for the winning businesses and the Lake District, Cumbria as a quality visitor destination.
This year we are delighted to announce the return of the Wedding Venue of the Year Award which was new to the 2016 competition and proved hugely popular.
Following requests from the industry, the Self Catering Holiday of the Year award will now be split into two categories to cater for single properties and multi-unit sites. Self Catering Holiday Property of the Year award will celebrate all styles of self-catering properties accommodating any number of guests within a single-unit or property. Self Catering Holiday Provider of the Year award will include businesses with a site offering two or more self catering units.
The other categories include options for hotels, visitor attractions, pubs, guest accommodation, B&Bs and holiday parks, as well as tourism experiences and events. The awards also recognise the best new tourism business (operating for less than two years), best sustainable business and the Taste Cumbria Award is for businesses offering exceptional service and food using local produce.
The judges will be looking for tourism businesses that demonstrate excellence and innovation across their products and services including; the visitor welcome, marketing, quality and their sustainable / environmental practices. Winning an award brings substantial benefits including, raising business profile, generating additional business and increasing customer confidence.

The winners will be announced at a glamorous black tie ‘Oscars’ style awards ceremony on Wednesday 21st June at Cartmel Racecourse.

In 2016 Askham Hall won Guest Accommodation of the Year and Wedding Venue of the Year.
Marie-Louisa Raeburn from Askham Hall said;

In 2016 Parkcliffe Caravan and Camping Estate won Holiday Park of the Year

For the third year, the awards presented to the winning businesses will made by award-winning architectural and sculptural metalworkers Chris Brammall Ltd in Ulverston. Chris and his team will again create an iconic and bespoke work of art to reward the achievements of the county’s tourism operators.
Visitors who have had an incredible tourism experience or received exceptional service in the county will be able to recognise that business, through a nomination through Cumbria Tourism’s e-marketing channels.
