Unlocking the economic potential of Cumbria’s Coast

Coastal programme

Cumbria Tourism’s dedicated West Cumbria office in Whitehaven is the base for a five-year programme to support business, strengthen the area’s visitor economy and showcase unique coastal, cultural and heritage assets.

It’s all about enhancing the overall attractiveness of coastal areas within the Cumberland Council area as a place for people to live, work, visit and invest.

The long-term aim is to build a stronger, more sustainable visitor economy with tourism developing as a thriving, year-round sector. That means we are focusing on skills outreach and recruitment, as well as business support and promotion through the continued development of the Cumbria Coastal Route (CCR).

Cumbria Tourism’s coastal programme is anchored by a formal multi-agency partnership between Cumbria Tourism and Sellafield’s Decommissioning Nuclear Waste Partnership (DNWP) framework.
