Winter Campaign

As tourism operators continue to face a unique set of challenges with a wide range of rising costs, Cumbria Tourism’s winter marketing campaign, which runs from October to March, focuses on targeting key audiences to create powerful and resonating reasons to book winter breaks, to stay longer, visit more and ultimately increase spend.

As well as focusing on visitors, the local resident market is key to the campaign, specially targeting in-county residents and those within a 1-to-2-hour drive time of the Lake District, Cumbria.

We focus on monthly themes, supported by online content and social media activity for our members to link to. The 2023 – 24 campaign themes were:

How businesses can get involved

To help you promote #ThePerfectPlaceToBe during winter, we put together a Winter Campaign Brochure which contains a collection of opportunities your business can get involved in.

Christmas Campaigns

Get involved in our popular Virtual Christmas Market on, which runs from 1st November. In 2022, the market received over 30,000 page views; and over 1,300 clicks to the featured offers. As a Cumbria Tourism member, you can advertise up to two Christmas-themed gifts for free; all you need is the ability to transact online.

New for 2023 was our Christmas Advent Calendar Giveaway, with an new prize draw offered each day from 1st to 24th December. This is a great interactive feature to boost exposure whilst allowing businesses to collect valuable opt-in marketing data.  The 2023 advent calendar attracted over 65,000 entries from over 10,000 unique visitors over the course of the month. Upload your events for free

As a Cumbria Tourism member, take advantage of the ability to upload an unlimited number of events for free.

Our ‘what’s on’ section is one of the most visited areas of, with our research showing it’s a highly trusted resource for visitors.

It’s easy to do using a simple online form and is another quick way of profiling what’s happening and encouraging people to plan ahead.

Make MyCumbria work for your business

Worried about occupancy levels and want to give your accommodation an extra boost? You may not have considered our residents-only MyCumbria card scheme before, but providing a special offer for this audience is a great way to entice potential customers to book. MyCumbria’s marketing channels are also a great free promotional tool.

Make your exclusive online listings stand out

Are your images and content up-to-date on

We recommend your listing contains 200-300 words to describe what makes your business special. Your membership includes up to 20 photos per listing, which is an excellent opportunity to really show you off at your best.

Adding your social media, TripAdvisor, updated awards and opening times also helps visitors find out the most up-to-date information about your business.

We work with a wide range of national media to ensure we amplify our messaging and gain maximum exposure and reach over the crucial winter period. By continuing to share your latest news and developments, you give us the best chance of attracting interest from high-profile journalists, broadcasters and influencers.
