Cumbria Tourism has been lobbying hard for the Deal which would deliver a range of support for the industry, including the potential of Tourism Action Zones.

At the end of 2018 we hosted Visit Britain policy colleagues on a fact-finding mission and on 30 January we were pleased to coordinate a visit by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s new Head of Tourism Sponsorship and Strategy, discussing the opportunities and potential to work together with Government to grow the value of tourism to the county as a whole.

We are delighted to have the support of partners at Cumbria LEP, LDNPA and local authorities in this important activity and look forward to further collaborative working and high-level discussion as the Deal progresses.

Cumbria Tourism’s wealth of research and insight puts us in an informed position to offer evidence not only to lobby and inform our  own activity but also  to support individual member development plans.

We have recently increased the amount of research freely available to our members . For access to our research please visit www.cumbriatourism.org/research. This  free access to our research is an exclusive benefit to CT members only .

We can also provide letters to support your own business development proposals, another free and exclusive benefit for our members.

We have produced a draft planning response framework to guide our activity and would welcome your comments on the draft framework. Please send comments to us by the end of February.

In today’s world of increasing wealth, unprecedented entrepreneurial success and ever-changing tax legislation, business and individuals need to think very carefully about tax planning.

Without thinking ahead and taking advantage of the many tax saving opportunities available to them, businesses and individuals will end up paying much more in tax than they need to – whereas seeking specialist tax planning advice could save you an awful lot of money.

The importance of tax planning for businesses

For those running a business, the amount of tax paid will always be directly linked to the amount of net profit you have earned.

With this in mind, effective tax planning is absolutely vital to ensuring that your business is running tax efficiently, and ultimately successfully, in the long-term.

In many cases, it is possible to achieve tax savings by:

  • Establishing the right business structure.
  • Maximising the allowances on qualifying capital expenditure.
  • Maximising the deductions for allowable expenditure.
  • Ensuring that any withdrawals from the business are made in the most tax-efficient way.
  • Structuring shareholdings and borrowings correctly.

The importance of tax planning for individuals

Effective tax planning is equally important for individuals – who can easily get caught out if they do not take advantage of the allowances and tax saving opportunities available to them.

It is possible to save money on personal taxes by:

  • Maximising the benefits of your, and your spouse or civil partner’s, personal allowances and basic rate bands.
  • Making best use of your tax-free benefits and salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Owning the most tax-efficient motor vehicle for you and your family.
  • Keeping on top of appropriate pension contributions for you and your family.
  • Making the most of tax-efficient borrowings and interest relief.

At Lamont Pridmore, our tax specialists will work closely with you so you can consider the tax implications of every important decision before it is taken.  Our approach has nothing to do with tax avoidance, instead it is just good housekeeping to ensure that you can legally claim the allowances and reliefs that you are entitled to.

We will also undertake an annual tax planning review 3 months before your financial year end and again 3 months before the 5th April each year, to ensure that you keep your business and personal tax liabilities to a minimum.

Need advice?

If your last tax bill was a shock to the system, it’s time to start thinking about how you can reduce your next one today.

At Lamont Pridmore, our tax specialists have a proven track record of helping businesses and individuals to minimise their tax bills and, in some cases, we might even be able to reduce your tax liabilities to nil.

We are tourism and hospitality specialists and take a holistic view to ensure we understand your business and your personal and family goals.

The English National Parks Experience Collection Has Launched

The English National Parks Experience Collection supported by VisitEngland’s Discover England Fund, is a collaboration of nine of England’s National Parks, creating a joined-up, internationally branded collection of bookable immersive experiences, supported by accommodation. Cumbria Tourism have been working on behalf of the Lake District National Park to provide business support, workshops and a trade marketing strategy which can be used by Cumbrian businesses targeting the Australian and German markets.

We were delighted to attend the official launch of the collection along with the National Park and representatives from some of the Lake District Collection’s experiences which was hosted at the medieval manor house of Haddon Hall in Bakewell, Derbyshire. The celebration included presentations by Sally Balcombe, Chief Executive of VisitBritain/VisitEngland, Sarah Fowler, Chief Executive of Peak District National Park Authority, Mark Holroyd, Head of Programme for The English National Park Experience Collection and Lord Edward Manors of Haddon Hall.

The event was well attended by representatives from England’s National Park’s, participating businesses in the collection, trade partners and media. A key success for the programme is the launch of a brand new Travel Trade Buyers Guide showcasing each National Park’s unique collection of immersive experiences and accommodation.
