On World EV Day today, Monday 9 September, Cumbria Tourism and Lloyd Motor Group are celebrating two years of a successful partnership dedicated to advancing eco-friendly travel across the county.

As part of the collaboration, Cumbria Tourism has been actively trialling a variety of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from Lloyd Motor Group’s extensive range. From the award-winning Kia EV9 and BMW iX to the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid, these vehicles have been tested across Cumbria, with the team sharing their hands-on experiences to promote the practical benefits of going electric.

Cumbria Tourism’s Managing Director, Gill Haigh, comments: “We’re proud to mark two years of working with Lloyd Motor Group to help businesses and visitors understand just how accessible and straightforward electric vehicle travel can be in the county. On World EV Day, it’s a great time to reflect on the progress we’ve made and continue encouraging more people to embrace greener modes of transport.”

Cumbria Tourism’s journey towards sustainability has included testing fully electric and hybrid cars for everyday business travel, all while making use of the county’s growing EV charging infrastructure. The installation of EV charging points at Cumbria Tourism’s Staveley headquarters has further supported the team’s commitment to a lower-carbon future.

Craig Kirkpatrick, Head of Marketing at Lloyd Motor Group adds: “We’re thrilled to have collaborated with Cumbria Tourism over the past two years to introduce them to a fantastic selection of electrified vehicles, from the BMW iX to, most recently, the award-winning Kia EV9. As the world shifts towards a more sustainable future, it’s been incredibly rewarding to share our electric vehicle expertise and support Cumbria Tourism’s efforts to promote eco-friendly tourism.

“It’s been fantastic to hear about their experiences of driving the different electric vehicles across our lineup, and see them sharing their insights with local businesses, visitors, and key stakeholders. We hope our partnership has inspired others across the county to embrace electric”.

Both organisations remain committed to supporting Cumbria’s move towards a more environmentally friendly future. This partnership plays a key role in raising awareness about the ease of travelling through Cumbria using electric vehicles, addressing common concerns like range anxiety and charging infrastructure.
