A string of dynamic tourism and hospitality businesses from across the Lake District and South Cumbria have signed up for a major jobs fair aimed at matching the latest vacancies with potential new recruits

The drop-in event at The Forum in Barrow-in-Furness takes place 10am-1pm on Wednesday 29 September and will be showcasing a wide range of full-time and part-time job opportunities suitable for everyone from school/college leavers to aspiring hotel/restaurant managers and people looking to return to the workplace after a career break.

Around 25 stands with key Cumbrian tourism employers will include: Storrs Hall, Haven Lakeland, The Swan at Newby Bridge, Windermere Lake Cruises, The Leeu Collection, The Inn Collection, Hargreaves Enterprises (BAHA, Lake View Garden Bar, The Fizzy Tarté), The Ro Hotel, Langdale Hotel & Spa, and more.

Job coaches and training providers will also be on hand to help match job seekers with the best roles to suit them, and there will be an informal networking area where people can talk one-to-one about the job vacancies on offer on the day.

The Jobs Fair has been arranged by Cumbria Tourism and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), alongside partners from Local IQ, Job Centre Plus and Inspira.

It’s all part of Cumbria Tourism’s #theperfectplacetowork recruitment campaign, which is challenging perceptions around what it means to work in Cumbria’s tourism and hospitality industry and helping businesses to better promote their job vacancies

Head of Partnerships & Projects at Cumbria Tourism, Rachel Tyson, says, “This recruitment event is all about matching the right people with the right jobs, and there will be plenty of opportunities for applicants to put themselves forward for specific jobs on the day.

“In the meantime, preparations are well underway to get some exciting and dynamic employers involved in the event and we’re also working closely with transport providers across the county to look at new and innovative ways of helping new recruits to access jobs across the Lakes more easily by public transport.”

Among the tourism operators attending the event will be The Inn Collection Group, which has pubs with rooms across the Lake District and has been named Best Pub Employer in the country for two years running in the Publican Awards.

Operations Manager Dan Evans says: “We’re excited to be coming to this important recruitment event and meeting people to spread the word about our company and the range of jobs we have across the group.

“People often associate hospitality with long hours and poor rates of pay, but we are keen to advocate hospitality as a great career choice and one that can be as flexible and individual as you with amazing progression opportunities and lots of friends and family perks and bonuses, too. We’re proud to have long standing relationships with our staff – including many members of the family who work with us, and people who have risen through the ranks – like myself – from front-of-house, to general manager to senior team.

“We’re actively recruiting team members at all levels across our sites including our stunning venues currently operating in Ambleside, Coniston and Bowness and for some which are set to open soon after exciting refurbishments. As well as full and part time roles, we have some brilliant opportunities for apprentices and access to our award-winning training programmes.”

Paul Foster, FSB Development Manager for Cumbria, adds, “Small businesses across Cumbria in the hospitality and tourism sectors have some fantastic opportunities right now, whether local people are looking for a career or just some temporary extra income.

“It’s an exciting and fast-moving sector to work in with some great opportunities for moving upwards for those who want to progress their careers.  If you are a business with vacancies you need to fill or a local resident this event is one not to be missed!”
