I am a new member and don’t currently have a listing on the website, what information do I need to give you and how?
One of the many benefits of being a member of Cumbria Tourism is a complimentary listing on our visitor facing website Visitlakedistrict.com. There are two listing levels which correspond to your chosen level of membership, and the benefits of each are detailed here.
Getting online with us is easy. Just complete the relevant form below:
When completed, please return your form to firstname.lastname@example.org along with images to use on your listing (at least 1500px wide x 879px high please).
The information you supply us with will form the basis of your listing.
In many cases, one listing covers what the business does and will be found in any relevant categories, pages and searches across the website.
In some cases, a business will have multiple products to promote. If this applies, you only need to fill in the main form once, giving us details of the main part of the business. We will then build your listing and contact you for details of the other parts of the business.
Example 1 – Hotel with bookable accommodation, restaurant, spa, weddings and conference facilities
In the example above, please complete and return the accommodation business form along with images to use on your main accommodation listing. Try and use the description text field to give as much information as possible about the property, types of room/unit available and the facilities, location and any other points of interest. We recommend around 300 words if possible). Once we have built your main listing, we will notify you by email and include a link to your main listing, along with a request for details and images to use on the additional listings for the restaurant, spa, weddings and conferences.
Example 2 – An outdoor activity provider with multiple activities in multiple locations
In this example, please complete and return the non-accommodation business form along with images to use on your main listing. Try and use the description text field to give as much information as possible about your business, background, people and main activity you offer, or your most popular activity (we recommend around 300 words if possible). Once we have built your main listing, we will notify you by email and include a link to your main listing, along with a request for details and images to use on the additional listings for the other activities you offer.

How do I promote my Event on Visitlakedistrict.com?
To add an event to Visitlakedistrict.com, all you need to do is upload the details here. Don’t worry if you lose this link, you can find it at the bottom of the What’s on page on the website. You can no longer use Guestlink for putting events on the website. All events are added using the link above.
Please note if the event doesn’t have an image, it won’t be accepted on the website.

I am an existing advertiser, how can I update my content?
Until now, if you have wanted to update your listings we have asked you to send the changes through to one of the team and they have been doing them for you. We are happy to continue to do this for you. However we are now able to give you a log in so you can update your content at any time through the Visitlakedistrict.com Extranet.
Please note, if you are an accommodation provider, room availability and pricing can only be done through your PMS provider e.g.: Guestlink, Supercontrol, Freetobook, TXGB, Booking.com etc. For more information on which systems we integrate with, please see the Bookability section below.
How to access the Extranet
If you would like to update your listing details, please contact the web team on firstname.lastname@example.org and a member of the team will set up an account for you to be able to access your listings via the Extranet.
Once you have received your login details from the team, you can access the Extranet here:
Sign in using your username and password and you should see options to be able to update the descriptions and images for your listings.
Adding good descriptions
You can add a short description and a full description in the corresponding fields. A short description is used in search results within the site, so it’s beneficial to add a good short description here. The short description just needs to be a paragraph long, focusing on your key selling points and providing a summary of your business.
The full description enables you to elaborate on all the things that make your business special. Use this to say why customers should come to you and bring out all the best things about what you do and what you offer. We recommend at least 300 words per listing.
When adding images to your listing, use the tools to upload the images you want to use. Please ensure the images are 1500px wide x 879 px high. If they are larger than this, they will be slower to load and may be cropped. If they are smaller, they may look blurry as they will be stretched to fit.
Please ensure you add a description of each image in the field marked ‘alt text’. This is important, as it helps search engines to identify your images in searches, and it provides a text description if for any reason images do not show (for instance if a user has images turned off in their browser. Make these alt text descriptions informative and descriptive, for instance ‘Room 1: Double ensuite bedroom at Cowley Manor’ is better and provides more information than simply writing ‘Bedroom’.
Finally, don’t forget to press save after making changes. Your changes should take effect straight away, but if you don’t see them when refreshing your listing page, add ?purgepage=1 to the end of your listing URL, as shown below. This will force your browser to reload a fresh version of the page.
Please note that not all information fields can be altered via the extranet. For example, the category and gradings must be amended by a member of the Cumbria Tourism team. Please email on email@example.com if you wish to make any changes that you cannot do via the Extranet.
