What is FairBooking?

FairBooking is a campaign to encourage consumers to book direct with accommodation providers. Established by Cumbria Tourism, New Forest Tourism Partnership and Visit Cornwall with the backing of their technology partner New Vision Group the campaign aims to help businesses be less dependent on multi-national Online Travel Agents (OTAs), thus avoiding the high commission fees they have to pay when advertising on these channels.

How does FairBooking work?

Booking a FairBooking property ensures that the customer receives the best deal by getting the best rate available and some added value; the business gets the best value by avoiding the high commission fees charged by online retailers; and the destination is supported by the business donating per every direct booking to an approved local charity that supports the destination, such as a woodland/wildlife conservation group or a mountain/air ambulance rescue service.

Therefore, FairBooking destinations and businesses support the following message:

  • The best deal for the guest
  • A better deal for the business
  • A better deal for the destination

TheĀ MessageĀ for Visitors

We encourage returning customers to book directly with your business for the best deal. However, if they are returning to Cumbria and would like to try somewhere new we want them to look for the FairBooking logo on guides and websites, such as The Lake District, Cumbria Holiday Guide or Golakes. This shows the destination or business they book with supports the FairBooking campaign.

Supporting Good Causes

FairBooking Cumbria businesses choose one of seven good causes to donate to per each direct booking received.

In addition Cumbria Tourism’s visitor facing website, Golakes, also makes a donation of a percentage of it’s annual commission to one of the good causes, as part of being a FairBooking website.

The seven good causes selected by Cumbria Tourism were chosen because they directly relate to supporting the destination, such as woodland or wildlife conservation groups and rescue services.
