Fells for All Festival
A Three-month event to unlock access to Cumbria’s landscape
How businesses can get involved:
- If you’re running an event suitable for people with additional access needs between now and June 2024, you can add it to Fells for All Festival page on visitlakedistrict.com via our free events listings. (Any business submitting events, activities or trail routes will need an access statement; email campaigns@cumbriatourism.org for details).
- We have designed a new festival toolkit to help businesses promote the Fells for All festival. This aligns with Cumbria Tourism’s Accessibility Toolkit to help equip a wide range of businesses with the skills and confidence to take part.
- We’re planning to engage with bloggers/vloggers throughout the 3 months, to highlight what’s accessible in Cumbria for a variety of people and show how access to these spaces impacts on mental health and wellbeing. If you are running an event, let us know if you’d be willing to host a social media influencer. Also, don’t hesitate to suggest potential influencers you’ve previously worked with who cover accessibility issues. Contact Gemma on: gprocter@cumbriatourism.org
Geoffrey Winthrop Young: A story of inspiration
The story of Geoffrey Winthrop Young echoes what the Accessible Cumbria Partnership is trying to achieve in extending a warm Cumbrian welcome to all…..
As a celebrated mountaineer, rock climber and writer Geoffrey was invited to deliver a dedication speech at the unveiling ceremony on Great Gable’s summit 1924.
He had been injured in the First World War and scaled Great Gable using a specially designed prosthetic leg, before delivering his speech to the assembled crowds.
Great Gable was the longest and toughest climb he’d tackled since before the war; that day, 500+ people listened to him in the rain, wind and mist at the top of the summit.
