Business Grants & Funding

We know it’s often difficult to find information on what financial support is available for your business, so we have put together this page where Cumbria Tourism members can find a snapshot of business grants and funding from partner organisations in one simple place.

A number of funding opportunities have been made available for businesses through Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness Councils. Take a look at the summary below, for further details with full contacts if you’d like to progress an application.

Cumberland Council UKSPF Grants

Copeland Community Fund is supporting Cumberland Council to deliver the following UKSPF grants:

Cultural Grants (UKSPF and REPF): Recognising the role of local arts, cultural and heritage institutions, Cumberland Council is making available funding for both capital works to existing arts, cultural and heritage assets and revenue support for cultural events and activities.

  • Capital Cultural Grants from £25,000 to £120,000 are available for works to existing cultural, heritage or arts institutions.
  • Revenue Cultural Grants from £10,000 to £50,000 are available to support cultural, heritage or arts activities/events.

Sports Grants (UKSPF): Recognising the role of local sports facilities, tournaments and teams within our local communities, Cumberland Council is making available both capital and revenue grants to support local clubs, tournaments and community sports facilities.

  • Sports Capital Grants from £5,000 to £50,000 are available for capital works to existing sports facilities.
  • Sports Revenue Grants from £5,000 to £50,000 are available to support sports tournaments and team activities and events.

Green Spaces Grants (REPF): Recognising the importance of rural green and blue infrastructure eg. community gardens, green spaces, watercourses and embankments, Cumberland Council is making available capital grants for the creation or improvement of local community spaces.

  • Green Spaces Capital Grants from £10,000 to £50,000 are available to support capital works in the creation or improvement of publicly accessible local green spaces (REPF)

Business support & grants for businesses in rural areas of Westmorland and Furness

Small and micro businesses in the areas previously covered by the former Eden and South Lakeland District Councils are eligible to apply.

Delivered by Cumbria Business Growth Hub (Cumbria Chamber of Commerce’s business support arm), working with a number of partners..

Advice and grants are available for small and micro businesses in rural areas of Westmorland and Furness (i.e. the previous Eden and South Lakeland areas) to support:

  • Businesses to overcome challenges facing them and respond positively to opportunities
  • Farming businesses to respond to challenges and opportunities including diversification

Events and Festivals Grants Programme

The deadline for applications is 26 June 2024 and grants must be spent by March 2025

Groups organising festivals and events in Westmorland and Furness can now apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 from a £100,000 pot funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

This grant scheme is aimed at supporting organisers improve their events or festivals, as well as promoting community, place and the environment. Voluntary and community-led businesses, social enterprises, charities, town and parish councils and other constituted groups can apply for the support for established or new events or festivals. Applications with match funding of at least 25 per cent will be preferred, but this is not a requirement.
