The Lake District, Cumbria welcomes spring with its second national #theplacetobe campaign
Cumbria Tourism the official tourist board for the county has launched its latest national spring marketing campaign in time to kick start the holiday season and inspire visitors to book their breaks away in the Lake District, Cumbria.
Building on the success of last year’s #theplacetobe campaign, Cumbria Tourism has teamed up once again with Kendal based Cactus Creative to capture the real beauty of the county, with the second phase of inspirational photography combined with eye-catching and thought provoking headlines.
The campaign will see the promotion of ‘The Lake District, Cumbria’ brand through national press partnerships, online and through social media. The campaign kicks off online with a high impact profile on the Guardian Travel home page. The Guardian newspaper will also showcase The Lake District, Cumbria, adverts on key pages in February 2015, as well as promotion on the tablet version of their website from the end of February for two weeks.
Cumbria Tourism is also continuing the promotion through The Telegraph with six travel features over a six week period from the end of January and three print display adverts from the end of January to the middle of February. Following the success of last year’s work with The Telegraph there will be a microsite for The Lake District, Cumbria, showcasing the travel features, a competition to win a two night dinner, bed and breakfast stay at Sharrow Bay, Ullswater, an image gallery as well as links through to key information on www.golakes.co.uk, the microsite will run until the end of March 2015. There will also be advertising on the Telegraph website over the coming weeks.
Each corner of the county has been selected to show what the area has to offer including; Loughrigg Terrace in Grasmere, Haweswater in Mardale, Blencowe Hall in the Eden Valley, The Lakes Distillery in Bassenthwaite and a stunning sunset over Morecambe Bay.

Therefore we are delighted to announce the second phase of the campaign has continued in the same style. We are confident that it will be yet another great success for the county, the businesses we represent and increase visitors coming to the area”
The spring initiative which will run up until the end of March 2015, is the last phase of a joint campaign with VisitEngland as part of the Government’s Regional Growth Fund marketing project: ‘Growing Tourism Locally’. So far Cumbria Tourism has delivered over £24 million worth of expenditure according to the Government’s independent research.
