Vital Survey to Examine Impact of Economic Pressures on Tourism Businesses in 2024

Amid ongoing economic challenges, Cumbria Tourism has launched its ‘business tracker’ survey to gather current, real-time data from tourism operators. This essential research aims to capture the issues they face as they navigate the autumn and winter seasons.

Working in partnership with Cumbrian accountancy firm Lamont Pridmore, Cumbria Tourism, one of VisitEngland’s official ‘Local Visitor Economy Partnerships’ (LVEPs), has introduced the in-depth business survey to better understand the critical challenges affecting the region’s tourism industry.

In addition to offering first-hand, up-to-date evidence to guide destination marketing for the county, this vital data will be used to strengthen Cumbria’s case with national decision-makers and influential industry bodies.

Managing Director of Cumbria Tourism, Gill Haigh, comments, “Tourism businesses are confronting multiple challenges in 2024, from rising costs and inflation to recruitment and transport issues. The survey also captures forward bookings for the upcoming winter season, helping us assess the full scope of the situation.

“While we know many businesses are feeling the strain, this research allows us to gain deeper insight into individual operators’ experiences, equipping us with robust evidence to present to key decision-makers. Completing the anonymous survey only takes a few minutes, and every response strengthens our case for meaningful support at the highest levels of government.”

Graham Lamont, Chief Executive of Lamont Pridmore adds, “As accountants understanding and interpretating financial data is in our blood.  Accessing the right information is essential to assess business performance and plan for future challenges and opportunities.  We are delighted to continue our support of Cumbria Tourism’s Business Performance Survey which provides Government, policy makers and business owners with the quantitative and qualitative information they need to make effective decisions.”

Tourism-related businesses of all shapes and sizes are being urged to complete the survey now: https://www.cumbriatourism.org/resources/research/
