The Lake District Foundation works with the Lake District National Park Partnership to help generate funds to look after this special place. They know that visitors to the area value our landscape, wildlife and heritage. It is important that we look after what we have in order to ensure future generations continue to have a world class experience. To date they have generated over £2.5million through their innovative Visitor Giving scheme for local conservation projects. They want to do more and help businesses get involved.

The Foundation currently works with over 200 businesses in Cumbria, all of whom who are actively fundraising for them. Experienced LDF staff and volunteers are on hand to help businesses to achieve their fundraising goals, and their supporters report the following business benefits:

As long-term fundraisers for the Lake District Foundation, the Cedar Manor Hotel in Windermere raises around £1500 a year through the Lake District Foundation’s visitor giving scheme – adding a suggested donation of £1 per guest to each room bill.

As part of their commitment to protecting the natural landscape and special habitats surrounding their business, The Cottage in the Wood, near Keswick is a long-term fundraiser for the Lake District Foundation. They do this in a novel way, selling bottles of their own water, bottled at source from a spring in their grounds.

Case Study – Business Supporter Scheme & Fundraising

Park Cliffe Camping & Caravan Estate, Windermere has been a member of the Lake District Foundation’s Business Supporter of the Lake District Foundation since January 2017, making an annual donation to the charity directly from its own account.

However, Park Cliffe’s impact as a very active fundraiser for the LDF is even greater and, in the past two years, they have raised a fantastic £2,700 for their chosen campaign, Fix the Fells. This has attracted match funding of a further £860, bringing the total funds raised to over £3,500 – a fantastic achievement in such a short period of time.

Not only are guests given an opportunity to make a voluntary donation when they book their stay online, the business also holds regular fundraising events. Whilst events take time and effort to plan and stage, they are great fun and add to the positive experience and sense of community for guests staying at the park. And, of course, the fun and enjoyment isn’t restricted to guests … the staff team enjoy getting involved, too!
